Wood Light Form

[Installation view of Nukhta – Silence at TRX Exchange]

There is a quiet satisfaction in seeing a work leave the studio and begin a conversation with strangers.

I’m grateful that Nukhta – Silence has been selected for exhibition at TRX Exchange. Seeing the piece installed in one of Kuala Lumpur’s newest cultural and commercial destinations is a reminder that quiet work can still make a lasting impression.

This exhibition marks another milestone in my journey as a Malaysian contemporary artist, exploring how simple materials and repeated gestures can create moments of reflection.

A Single Point, Infinite Possibilities

Nukhta is an Arabic word meaning a point the smallest mark from which language, thought and meaning can begin.

In Nukhta – Silence, thousands of individually placed metal pins emerge from raw birch plywood, forming a gentle, flowing movement. The work changes with the light, as each pin casts a shadow that becomes part of the composition.

Rather than asking viewers to find a specific narrative, the piece invites them to pause, observe and experience stillness.

Built from Ordinary Materials

Plywood is usually associated with construction. Steel pins are functional objects.

Together, they become unexpectedly delicate.

Every pin is placed by hand, transforming industrial materials into a tactile drawing that exists somewhere between sculpture and line. This balance between strength and softness has become a defining element of my practice.

Part of the Quiet Weight Series

Although only Nukhta – Silence is exhibited at TRX Exchange, it belongs to a larger body of work exploring the expressive potential of a single point.

The series currently includes:

  • Nukhta – Echo – expanding concentric circles that suggest energy radiating from a single beginning.
  • Nukhta – Silence – a flowing form inspired by quiet reflection and inward movement.
  • Light Spirit I – feathers created entirely from metal pins, exploring lightness and impermanence.
  • Heavy Hearts – a larger feather dissolving into space, where texture and shadow become the artwork itself.

Together, these works investigate rhythm, repetition, negative space and the relationship between material and light. While each piece stands on its own, they also speak to one another through a shared visual language.

Looking Ahead

This exhibition is another chapter in an evolving practice centred on geometry, texture and contemplation.

My hope is to continue expanding the Nukhta series. Maybe into larger installations and public exhibitions, inviting viewers to slow down and discover how something as simple as a single point can hold remarkable depth.

Sneak Peek 👀 of my next set of Khat Study

If you’re visiting TRX Exchange, I hope you’ll take a moment to experience Nukhta – Silence in person. The subtle shadows, changing light and handcrafted details reveal qualities that photographs can only begin to capture.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped, looked closely and shared a quiet moment with the work.
