Art Beyond Canvas

Wood Light Form

Art Beyond Canvas

Art Beyond Canvas

Art that moves past surface into weight, texture, and belief.

I’ve spent some years now working on canvas.

Recently, the work asked for something sturdier. Slower. More honest.

This is where my practice expands.

[ View the work ] Take a slow look – no obligation

[ Start the conversation ] A quiet enquiry, not a checkout.

Made with Intention

I work, pause, step away, return.

The panels are interchangeable, a quiet invitation back to play, to curiosity to the ease of not needing a correct outcome.

Canvas holds colour. Wood holds time.

Plywood resists. It carries grain, tension and imperfection and it changes how paint behaves.

That resistance matters.

This shift wasn’t planned as a statement. It happened because the work demanded more presence than canvas could give.

‘Art Beyond Canvas’ is not a new direction. Its a deepening of the same questions I’ve always asked, just held differently.

The Process

Each panel is built, shaped not stretched.

Paint is layered, sanded, paused. Marks are allowed to settle instead of being resolved too quickly.

What you’ll notice:

Texture that refuses to disappear

Gestures that slow down as you look

Silence built into the surface

These works don’t try to explain themselves. They wait.

The Work in the World (MIFF March 2026)

Showing at MIFF March 2026

Selected works from Art Beyond Canvas will be presented at MIFF.

This exhibition isn’t a finish line. Its a moment of letting the work stand on its own outside the studio, among other materials other conversations.

MIFF participation with Xordinary feels like the right place for this body of work to breathe.

This presentation marks a moment of placement, not completion. Where the work steps out of the studio and into conversation.

In Collaboration Presented with Xordinary

This exhibition is presented in collaboration with Xordinary a platform that support thoughtful, process led work and values depth over noise.

Our alignment is simple : to create space for artists to work slowly honestly and without dilution.

Xordinary’s theme this year is happiness. Art Beyond Canvas responds by looking at happiness without performance or excess.

These selected artworks are designed to be interchangeable. They invite a kind of play, a return to childhood, where arrangement was intuitive and rules didn’t matter.

There is no right or wrong way to place them. Only what feels good in the moment.

I hope this openness allows the work to bring a quiet sense of happiness into the space it lives in.

There’s no correct version of the work. Just the one that feels right to you.

If it adds a little happiness to your space, that’s enough.

For Collectors

This isn’t for evreryone.

its for someone who wants their space to feel held not filled.

These panels aren’t ‘decor.

They are pauses.

Held in wood, weight and movement.

Each work is :

Created in Limited Numbers, Individually finished and made with intention.

If you’re drawn to the quieter pieces in a room, you’ll understand this work.

[Enquire about availability]

Availability is limited by process, not demand.

I’m building a body of work that can last.

If you’re here take your time. The work will meet you when it’s meant to.

Love, – Reena M
